ECU Connect Quick Start
In This Article
In this article we will discuss what ECU Connect is, the basic features plus how to set up and use the App
The Basics
ECU Connect is the free companion app to the EcuTek Bluetooth Vehicle Interface (EVI-BT). The device connects to the OBD vehicle diagnostic socket of all vehicles supported by EcuTek's ProECU tuning product (a list of supported models can be found here) to allow communication between the engine management ECU and your iPhone, iPad or Android device.
With the Bluetooth Vehicle Interface (EVI-BT) and ECU Connect you can retrieve information from the ECU and perform other specialist functions, the basic ECU Connect functions are:
- Vehicle ECU info
- High-speed Data logging
- Dealer Locator
- DTC Tool
- Performance Analyser
- Program the ECU with Stock/Tuned Files
ECU Connect is not a generic OBD tool though it does have some generic OBD logging capabilities with new model CAN protocols. ECU Connect can only be used in conjunction with the EcuTek Bluetooth Interface, which is key to its high-speed operation; it will not work with any other device.
Account Setup
Once installed you can run the app and the start sign up process, the first step is to select a tuner. If you don't wish to use any of the PhoneFlash features you don't need to select a tuner or create an account. Simply Press the skip button and you can continue using the basic features of the app.
If you want to use the phone flash ability of ECU Connect follow the steps to set up your account.
Tuner Selection
The first step after installing the app and opening ECU Connect is to select a tuner

If you have recently purchased a kit and have purchased further tuning services find their name on the list and select them, use the search option to speed things up.

Alternatively, you don’t have to select a tuner just yet, you can use the app without one, it will mean that you cannot receive Flash File etc.
EcuTek Account Creation
once you have selected a tuner the app will ask for an EcuTek account login

Follow the account creation or login procedure to access the home screen of the app. Alternatively press skip for now to start using the non Phone flash options of ECU connect. When creating an account simply enter you details plus read and agree to the terms and conditions.

Once completed press create to finalise your account, ECU Connect will have logged you in automatically.
Connecting to the Bluetooth Vehicle Interface (EVI-BT) for the First Time
When the app is started for the first time, follow the instructions to connect to the Vehicle Interface. The first step is to plug the EVI-BT into the OBD2 socket and start ECU Connect.
It may take several seconds for the device to be detected.

After pairing is complete the app will prompt the user to set up a passcode which allows you to limit who can use the app.

When the procedure is completed, the Vehicle Interface is connected and ready to be used.

Basic Features only
Once installed you can run the app and the start sign up process, the first step is to select a tuner. If you don't wish to use any of the PhoneFlash features you don't need to select a tuner or create an account. Simply Press the skip button and you can continue using the basic features of the app.

Using the App and Basic Features
When the mobile device is near a paired Vehicle Interface, a connection will be established automatically and the main menu will show the My car button.
Press the button to access the vehicle tools menu:

The available tools depend on the vehicle make and model.
The vehicle key must be in either the Ignition ON position or engine running.
Vehicle info
Choose “Info” to display information about the current vehicle:

Vehicle Info reads the information from the ECU and presents it in the App. It will show the ECU Calibration ID (CALID), RaceROM version and if this RaceROM version has App compatibility. If you don't see the special features your tuner has enabled check the RaceROM patch version and that app support is enabled.
Data Logging
This feature allows ECU Connect to display and record factory and RaceROM diagnostic parameters, including engine and transmission simultaneously, if supported. Live Data is automatically displayed and to start logging press the start button and add log marks when events occur. To stop logging simply press stop. The log files can later be accessed from the Archive in the main menu.

Red parameters are RaceROM custom Parameters, Black Parameters are OEM PID parameters and they are labelled as ECM or TCM on the left side
DTC Tool
To view the vehicle’s current Diagnostic Trouble Codes, select DTC Tool. A list of supported modules will be shown with the number of DTCs detected. Select an ECU to see the DTCs and their descriptions. To clear the DTCs on a specific module, press the Clear or X (for Android) button when viewing the DTCs list. To clear all the DTCs on all modules, press the Clear all or X (for Android) button on the initial page.

The Android has an X button instead of the word clear in the DTC page

Performance Analyser
This feature allows you to measure the time for 0-60mph, ¼ mile, Vmax and more. The results can also be stored for comparison and shared online instantly. To carry out the performance test, select Performance Analyser. The desired measurements can be chosen by tapping the settings icon;
To start the test bring the car to a stop (if its not already), select New Run and start test by accelerating the vehicle, ECU Connect will only start the timing sequence after it detects the vehicle speed above zero.
The test will end when all of the measurements are acquired or you abort the run. It will beep 3 times to let you know. The values will display on the screen, at which point you can save them to the Archive folder.

Your performance results can be shared online and compared to previous test results to track your vehicle's performance.
Hopefully this will give you enough information to set up and use ECU Connect with great results.
